NYX Butter Gloss Review and Swatches

March 31st, 2015

Honestly, I am not a lip gloss person. I prefer a good, pigmented lipstick anytime of the day. And that is the reason I have fewer lip glosses in my collection when compared to the loads of lipsticks I own. However, NYX Butter Glosses are widely popular and almost all beauty bloggers rave about the collection. So I had to jump onto the bandwagon to see what the fuss is all about.

I bought three of them in shades spread across the colour spectrum so I can form a well informed opinion of them for you.

NYX describes the product as,

Buttery soft and silky smooth, our scrumptious new Butter Lip Gloss tastes as sweet as a sugar cookie—and makes your lips look downright luscious. Swipe it on alone or over your favorite lipstick for creamy sheer to medium coverage that melts onto your lips and is never sticky.

Let’s start with the packaging – they are half the size of an average palm. That makes them very travel friendly. The tubes are coloured in the same shade as the lip gloss making it easier to choose the shades. The glossy finish to the tubes makes it any makeup collectors’ delight. The fragrance of the glosses reminds one of a dessert – almost caramel like. The wand comes with the typical doe foot applicator.

Now coming to the formula – in general, they all have a thick creamy texture. They are not as sticky as the typical glosses. They are buttery to feel (hence the name) and glide on the lips super slick. They are quite pigmented for a gloss. The staying power is say about 4 hours on an average although they wouldn’t withstand a massive eating spree. At the end of the day, they are lip glosses and function as one. The colour pay off is good for a lip gloss but do not expect an opaque finish. They can be used by themselves for a sheer finish or on top of a lip stick for that extra creamy shine.

Overall, I would recommend the product for someone who loves lip glosses. If you are – you must have these in your collection. For the anti-lip gloss community – they would work well with those dry lipsticks you own. I probably wouldn’t jump in and own the entire collection but will definitely buy shades that will compliment some of my lipsticks.
