Lancôme DreamTone Corrector Review

December 3rd, 2013

Gone are the days when the basic skincare routine consisted of cleansing, toning and moisturising. Serum has become an essential step in the routine, sitting comfortably between toner and moisturiser, due to the benefits it has to offer. Now I cannot imagine applying moisturiser without a serum or corrector and some nights, when I feel my skin needs a breather, it is the only skin care product I use.

The main reason I added serum to my routine is not because I fancy a new product or love investing extra time in my already busy day, but purely because I have noticed visible results from various serums I have tried in the past.

Serums are basically concentrated treatments customised for the various concerns one might have. They are thin/liquid-y in consistency, sometimes almost water thin, and get absorbed easily into the skin. Hence, they are meant to be used before applying a moisturiser as the latter tends to be thicker in consistency. Serums also double as primers as they fill in the flaws and open pores in the skin, and therefore create an even base for makeup.

So, about a month ago, I was out of the Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector which I have been using for quite a while now. I have continued with Clinique’s Even Better Corrector for as long as I have because it has brought about visible difference to my main skin concerns – uneven skin tone, redness (especially around nose), dry patches and open pores. As I was about to pick up another bottle of Clinique at the departmental store, something in the next counter caught my eye. In a novel design pretty pink bottle, Lancôme’s DreamTone Corrector was a product I had to enquire about.

Through triple action technology, this advanced corrector is designed to correct the appearance of dark spots, uneven skin tone, and visibly corrects colour irregularities such as dullness, sallowness and blemish marks. With three tailor-made formulas to target each pigmentation profile – from the fairest to the darkest – it’s an innovative skincare approach for visible results.

However, the formulation is categorised into three different skin profiles, called as ‘Pigmentation profiles’ and can be chosen based on the skin concerns or the skin tone:

  • Pigmentation profile 1 – Fair skin tone, red marks after acne / blemishes and experiencing unevenness such as colour irregularities
  • Pigmentation profile 2 – Fair/medium skin, redness around the nose area , experiencing colour difference and sallowness
  • Pigmentation profile 3 – Darker skin, dull skin and colour irregularities between forehead and cheeks

The Beauty Mantra opinion

As my skin tone comes under the ‘medium’ category and the skin concerns are uneven skin tone and redness around nose area, I picked up the Pigmentation profile 2. However, the SA at Lancôme counter mentioned that the base of all three profiles is the same and primarily targets uneven skin tone. So, it is okay to mix it up a bit if you like – the only difference would be the colour pigments.

The profile 2 corrector is peachy-pink in colour with subtle shimmer and product dispensed in about two pumps is enough for the face and neck. Upon application, the product gets absorbed into the skin although it leaves a slightly oily – shimmery finish. The fragrance was too strong for my liking, but if you are someone who can stand strong fragrances it shouldn’t be a deterrent. The corrector acted as a good base for the products applied next – moisturiser, sun screen and makeup.

Coming to the main reason for buying the corrector – to even out the skin tone, I am not particularly happy with the result. After using for more than 4 weeks, the skin did feel cleared up and slightly brightened but the product did absolutely nothing to the redness. The fragrance did irritate me a bit but it’s not a biggie in terms of weighing down my opinion. Shelling out some serious bucks for a 40 ml product, my expectations were probably higher and I think there are a lot more products in the market that could work just as well for the same amount.

What I liked about Lancôme DreamTone Corrector:

  • Good base product – acted as a primer for the make up and had subtle shimmery pigments that illuminated the skin

Would I repurchase the product?

Perhaps not. If you are after a corrector that works well and comes at a better price, then I would not recommend this. But then again, that’s just my opinion. After all, the bottle does look good sitting on the dresser :)
